Starting the Weekend Off Awkwardly

One of my first Facebook statuses (all the way back in 10th grade) was "Awkward is...texting your debate coach instead of your boyfriend." Years later, I still seem to have a knack for getting myself into the most awkward situations. For instance, last night, I was invited to karaoke with my fellow college seniors, and someone handed the microphone to me just as "F*ck You" by Cee Lo Green was coming on. I didn't realize until after I started singing it that my ex was in the audience...which made for quite an awkward performance (but an oddly fulfilling one at the same time :P).

Tell me, what kinds of awkward shenanigans have you gotten yourself into lately?

Chambray: Target (old), similar here from Kohl's (on clearance for $8.80)
T-Shirt: F21 (old). Similar here from Madewell ($32)
Shorts: Joe Fresh. I swear this one from Urban is an identical match.
Bag: Ross, similar color here from Zappos
Sandals: Sam Edelman, last seen in Thursday's post
Lightning earrings: Forever21 (on clearance for $0.99)

Don't forget to join my fuzzy cat scarf + pendant giveaway, to win this scarf (nicknamed "Cocoa") and some blinging jewels!

  1. Haha, that is an awesome awkward story! I volunteer at an aquarium and I once stepped in a huge pile of possum poop (we have one on exhibit) just before meeting a new volunteer. It was so embarrassing.

  2. I have so many awkward stories that I can't even begin to keep track… I am notorious at falling down, don't know why, but I almost always manage to trip on something somewhere and usually take some other people down with me… haha!

  3. Did that mess up the exhibit? That would be an awesome reason to get fired: "destruction of exhibited...materials..."

  7. Haha that is absolutely perfect - CeeLo Green and your ex is always an excellently awkward situation. I have so many awkward moments, I don't even bother keeping track anymore. I was told by my parents recently that I was doing that since I was a child - when I was 5, my dad's friend asked what I wanted to be when I grew up. I apparently looked thoughtful before finally saying, "I'd like to be a rich widow." Crickets chirped.

On a sartorial note, I am kind of in love with your shorts! The lace is so pretty and it looks so fresh paired with the printed chambray! Very pretty :]

  10. Well, he definitely got the message which probably was destined to be channeled at that particular time and place :)) I recently happened to be in some awkward situation, which is to do with blogging, I commented on my very good friend's outfit without reading her short story prior to writing my comment as it was very late into the night, next day I revisited her blog again to find out that her outfit was in navy and not in black as I had thought. So it was very embarrassing for me.
You look absolutely adorable and very pretty. Wish you great week ahead Brittney! <33333

  13. HA, well it was while she (possum) was walking around before we opened, so I had to clean it up right away. The whole thing one just one long, awkward moment.

  14. I feel like you would get along splendidly with Jennifer Lawrence...as long as you two didn't walk together at any awards shows and trip each other up!

  15. I'm sure she understood---sometimes I do the same thing because my monitor color is whacked, so I will get replies from the blogger saying "I'm not wearing any yellow in this outfit...do you mean green?"

  20. I love the outfit combination (the shorts!!), you look pretty in blue! :D

awkward thing that happens a lot to me is being left in the car alone with a friend's friend whom I just met. I'm really bad in starting conversation :s Most of the time s/he will turn on the radio to make the atmosphere less awkward haha

  21. Hey Britt! :) You added me back just recently! We're Instagram buddies now! ;)
Also, how do you get Disqus onto your blog? I was trying to figure it out but just have regular commenting. Would love to know :)

  22. I found Disqus' help page to be really concise and useful. If you go here http://help.disqus.com/customer/portal/articles/1257441-adding-disqus-to-your-site#blogger and look for "widget installation," it should take you to your admin account where you can even import your existing blogger comments.
